Planting the seeds...

Our initiatives are as many, and varied as you can imagine.

As you read in our history page, Homegrown Homes has, over the years renovated derelict houses, physically moved surplus houses, managed houses owned by someone else, and built houses from scratch.

There is no one, single model that we prefer. Some projects are easier than others. All have their own, unique challenges. For example, we discovered that when moving a home, it was less expensive to crane off the roof and re-attach it, than it was to pay steep fees to move power lines along the relocation pathway.

That decision led to another opportunity - as long as the roof is off, why not extend the single-story structure to a second floor? This allows for a larger living space, a greater number of bedrooms, and the opportunity to shelter a larger family.

Presently, we are in throes of finalizing plans to build. We're hoping to do a renovation after that.

Will we build again? Renovate again? Move a home again?

It depends upon the opportunity, and the possibility. We're always looking for both.

In the end, we'll do whatever it takes to increase affordable housing stock.

One home at a time...
